Audio Research SP-6 captive cord.......

Would changing a captive Audio Research SP-6 model preamp cord to an "IEC" change the value of the preamp? Presently, I don't have any intentions to upgrade to another preamp but was wondering how much better the preamp might sound if I could try different power cords.Has anyone who owned a SP-6 changed the captive cord and did it accomplish much of an improvement? I have a tech who can do the change with no problem.

Thanks

No I don't think it would hurt the value at all.To me it would make it more valuable not only to you but to someone interested in buying it from you ( if you decide ever to sell ) .. If nothing else for the flexability alone, its worth more..If I had two SP6 pieces to pick from, both in the same condition..I would chose the IEC piece no question.....Heck if you wanted to,you could take the stock cord and put another IEC end on it and offer it to the next owner........

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know and it coincides with my thoughts. I'm going to bring it to my tech on tomorrow. That's a good idea if I decide to sell it in the future to place a IEC on the stock cord end and offer it that way. I just did not want to hurt the value.

Thanks

Adding another connection never improves things. Better to just replace the cord you have with an upgrade direct wire.
I bought one with a captive cord but new by Zu. The work was done by an ametuer and what a messy job. I had it changed to an IEC. Since I never sold it I have don't know whether it matters price wise.
The second point about sound degradation though did not occur. The after market direct and the aftermarket IEC cords I used have almost no impact on the SP6B. The circuit, in this modded pre, overwhelms other changes I have made. With most anything else the changes with a good PC IMHO should be more audible.
