I like my D2 as do two of my friends, but, I think I'm going to sell mine to buy the tube dac (Tubador) that Vlad is now building. I have heard it and there is no comparison. In fact, for me, this is the dac to have right now. An amazing piece.
Audio Mirror D2 - keep or no?
I'm on the verge of selling my Audio Mirror DAC-2. Why? I don't know... I suppose I read a little bit about it and caught a few bad reviews... one saying it is basically a cheap $130 design with minor upgrades... but couldn't this be said for ANY DAC?
So I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this DAC and if they can give me an opinion on how it compared to the other ones they have heard.
I am specifically thinking about selling/trading it for an MHDT Paradisea or a Scott Nixon offering. Would this be worth it, would it be '6 of one half a dozen of the other', or would it actually be a downgrade?

I still own an original D1 that has been modified. I've always liked this DAC in stock and modified form. If you like the NOS sound and TDA-1543 chips then unless something else is wrong with the DAC you're probably going sideways with your move. However, the Valab NOS DAC mentioned in the forums here looks very promising. I might just try one out for myself. For $200 it worth a shot. |
