ARC SP-10 and the EAR 834P

I've been using my SP-10 for 10 years now. Nice preamp. Feeding it lots of tubes along the way. As I grow older, I feel that I am becoming less tolerant of this.

I have not listened to another phono preamp in this time. Lately I've become interested in the EAR 834P, particularly, the modded variations. My question is this: Does my 25 year old SP-10 sound dated by todays standards? Can it's performance be bettered by something as inexpensive as the 834?

In terms of a lower noise floor, or a better line stage, yes it can be bettered. But I think you'll find a lot of people here will tell you that the phono section of the SP-10 is still among the best you'll find.
