Any of you own a classic Modern Stereo Console?

Yes, I know they are far from high-end audio sound, but there are many "cool" looking console stereos from the "Eames Era"...

It would be fun to see what you might own and if anyone has gutted one and put good modern electronics in one.

Man whatjd, I have some good memories of some great sounds coming out of console stereos in the 60's. In fact it seems that is my sbaseline when I am looking for a sound I want in my more modern stuff. I think I could go back and be so happy with a old magnavox or fisher console stereo.
The weak link in classic early 60s console was the turntable.  The loudspeakers were next.  The best part were the electronics.  Fisher and Pilot in particular had prized power amps, preamps and tuners.
I have a early 1960’s Phillips console that my mom and dad kept in the living room. Sliding doors concealed the am/fm tuner and sliding turntable. All tube with 20watt speakers with tweed speaker grills. I have not upgraded the components yet. It still works! May not ever. It is such a great conversation piece. Fond memories of my dad putting Guy Lombardo, Dick Hyman, Enoch Light, 101 Strings or Frank Sinatra on after mass on Sunday.

Must admit……do not get any of this.  So you want speakers firing at my knees?  And the drivers suffering suffocating boxitis?  They sound seriously confined.  Only commenting on sound reproduction, not the desire to live retro cool mid-century.

l’m a boomer, so I already suffered through the Zenith console TV in the center built-in dreck.  But, by all means charge forward if it’s your thang.

whatjd +1, perhaps +10.  Great print ads.  And how did those of that era figure out how NOT to have a nuclear winter.  Professional dog trainers have it right, "leave it, come".
