Any issues with Money Back Guarantees offered?

I should have read the details but the main advertisement stated 30-day money back guarantee! The first hidden charge (it was mentioned on the website, but didn't think it would apply to my order) was the excessive duty I paid to receive from overseas ($86). When returned I was hit with a 15% re-stocking fee and the Paypal fee. I didn't mind the shipping cost; that's to be expected. But 15% on each item sure added up; almost $450 for a 30 day listen. Then a $98 Paypal charge back. So much for a demo with a money back guarantee! I am writing this so other audiophiles will be sure to read the fine details of offers such as this and give careful thought if this is actually worth the expense!

Rule #1- Don't buy from overseas without an authorized dealer in the U.S.A.
I purchased an Olive music server HD4, on the second day the CD drawer stopped functioning. Shipping both ways plus a restocking fee cost me about $500 and a Diana Krall CD. They also delayed refunding the money until I got Visa involved.
In these type transactions the 'fees' will take 50% of your payment and tie up your money for six months. As Elizabeth said, you also have my sympathy. I did a number of UK transactions in the 80's, all turnout okay, especially since the exchange rate was very favorable.
It is a dealer that advertises on this site a 30 day money back guarantee! I purchased 3 PC's; two for me and one for a friend to get a volume discount. I had many friends listen on very good systems since my system is being rebuilt. The other audiophiles didn't like them; lower noise floor for sure, but robbed the dynamics. I decided to keep one for my CDP to try. The PC were too musical and in the systems demonstrated soften the dynamics too much. For a bright system they might do the trick. Just an FYI, not a criticism of the product at all. Like everything it is system dependent. Just wanted everyone to know there are other unconsidered charges when trying.
If you're looking for quality money back guarantees in general, Audio Advisor has a stellar money back guarantee and the only expense is the shipping to and from. Music Direct is supposed to have a similar one. The only downside, is the selection/brands of audio gear from both companies is limited. But each company represents a good way to audition a limited number of brands of new audio equipment in your system without risk. (no restocking fee either) The ability to audition audio gear in your own system and return what does not work out for a refund can sometimes be worth the cost of buying new. Does anyone know of other companies with quality return policies that compare to these two?
PayPal refunds the fees back to the seller, if the transaction is refunded within 60 days. They shouldn't be charging you this, if it was within 60 days
One private member here offered me to try his $2k cables for a week and was prepared to send them to me. There was no business involved. And we don't know each other. Isn't it great?
Chrisvh, does the refund of Paypal fees apply to a retailer too? I had the cables back within three weeks! Please let me know where I can find this on Paypal; I might go back to the manufacturer and ask for it back! Thanks.
This is just a plain bad way to do business imo. especially with a power cord! restocking fee? What change the bag? Wipe down the cord and sell it to the next guy? come on...plus no meniton of duty or paypal fee? just be glad it wasn't the more expensive power conditioner..

Yes I was the other guy who tried the cord...and imo.the cord is rolled off and robs the leading edge....after a while I was just not that interested in listening to my system, a bad sign. perhaps on some systems this is a good thing. not on mine. they should change their policy, expecially since you did decide to keep one cable...but at 15% plus duty and paypal, on 3 expensive power cords, you basically paid for a nice entry level cable..and got nothing in return. sorry for your "loss" as it should have been "less" - no pun intended -
