An Objective Review of the Tekton Double Impact Speakers

Of course I did. I was just pointing out that you spelled it incorrectly.

Fagaboutit? I don't think that's the way it's spelled @philbarone . Anyway, I would like to know what Eric is doing with the money from all of the product he has sold if he can't afford to hire help after all of this time. It must be tough for him now though, having gone through the covid period, and now that the time has passed when Tekton was the name on everyone's lips.

Fagaboutit. As my mom once told me, "don't be a sucker" but with Tekton, you can be a big fat sucker, poor service AND get abuse from the owner.  Guarantee you, in a few years Tekton will be gone and or made in China.  Now, if you have crappy ears, then go for it.

You guys caught me!!!   I have never owned any Tekton speakers and I came on here to make up this elaborate story because I was so bored... damn!

Oh, almost forgot... had the Enzo XL also.

So @audiofreak32 is pissed at Tekton and is digging up every old Tekton-bashing thread he can find and posting his story on it.  Lots of emotion in his writing.  Maybe romance novels next.

If anyone wants to hear a pair of Tektons supplied by an above average system and make their own conclusion (in So Cal) they are welcome to contact me.

Jerry

@audiofreak32 I don't understand why you needed to cancel the order after you seemed to accept the build time. That would piss anyone off. No saying Eric behaved in a courteous manner, but...

You didn't list your Tekton 4-10 subs!

Interesting story. We all have bad days, but he should have spent a few minutes working it off on a punching bag instead of using you as one. Running any business can be a harrowing experience, but as you said, some of the weight can be shared by hiring help. It seems that he has been selling enough speakers to be able to afford that.

You were probably too nice, but I might have done the same as you. It's intimidating when someone comes at you in that way.

I have personally owned 5 pairs of Tekton speakers... (in order):

- Pendragon

- Lore Impulse (no longer sold)

- M Lore

- Double Impact

- Impact Monitor

All decent sounding speakers, nothing crazy special, but for the money... a pretty darn nice sounding speaker.  The cabinet quality and parts quality is pretty low and all the cabinets sound very hollow.  Don't waste any extra money on a fancy finish - it will NOT look good and it WILL take even longer to receive the speakers than it already does.

What I generally liked about the Tekton speakers that I have owned over the years is that they did not really seem to need to best/greatest front end to sound really decent.  You didn't need a $10k front end to get some decent sound out of them, whereas many others (Focal, B&W, Dynaudio and the likes) almost require a much more sophisticated front end.

What I do not like (and the reason that I will NEVER buy another pair or ever recommend them again) is the owner... Eric.  I have spoken to him on the phone at least 4-5 times over the years and the last call with him was a game changer for me.

I had ordered a pair of speakers (2-10 Perfect SET) and understood that they would take an undetermined amount of time to build/ship (which is kinda normal with Tekton).  After about 6-7 weeks, I sent an email asking to "cancel the order".  Never got a reply.  After another 2 weeks... sent a 2nd email to "CANCEL MY ORDER". Again, never heard back.  Finally I called and Eric picks up right away.  I explained that I had sent two separate emails, about 2 weeks apart with no response and that I wanted to cancel my order.  His attitude changed suddenly and drastically and he told me to "call him tomorrow".

When I called back the next day, I did not get an answer, so I sent a text, again asking to cancel the order and provided my name and the speaker that I had ordered.  All the sudden I get a call immediately from him and the tone was not good from the get go.

He started ranting about people canceling orders and he has to refund this guy or that guy because of this reason or that reason and he is sick and tired of it.  He told me that he just refunded a guy on a pair of Moab's because the guy said that he got cancer.  Then starts ranting about that his painter quit and went elsewhere for more money and that he is out painting the speakers himself.  And that he cannot answer every call and email.

In my opinion, you CANNOT try to do it all.... you cannot answer the phone, answer emails, paint speakers and design new models and everything else that needs to happen to run a successful business... it will not work.  If you are not willing to hire some people to help things go more smoothly, then you will eventually have some serious issues.

I was so upset at the way that Eric was talking to me that I told him... "Forget the order cancellation... go ahead and make the speakers, ship them to me and I will take a loss selling them when they arrive".  If he is so busy and cannot get a pair of speakers out to someone in under 3 months, then there is a problem.   And if that is the case, then WHY NOT ALLOW ME TO CANCEL MY ORDER!!!  That would help him move onto other builds by cancelling my order.

I have never seen a person be so helpful and appreciative of a repeat customer buying several models in the past and then talk like he did to me on the phone that day... wish I had recorded the call.... WOW.

I salute all those members who take the time to fight the good fight against self serving BS served up regularly and continuously by just a few with both massive and intrusive personal agendas on the internet both here and elsewhere. Keep up the good work! 🖖

The percentage of useful threads on this site has drifted down to about 10% thanks to the likes of tsushima1 and others.

"Aw bless" followed by some inane emogi.  What a sad example of humanity.

There isn't a single product on the market that is loved by everyone; some will love the Tekton speakers, others will not.  But, there are so many hate postings that are probably not based on actual listening experience because it is not easy to audition speakers that are directly sold to the consumer.  Yes, there is a ridiculous amount of hype of this brand, but, that does not mean it doesn't have merit.  I've heard both the Double Impacts and Moab at shows, and I think they sound pretty good, particularly when price is considered.  The tradeoff for the cheap price from cutting out the middlemen is that the consumer assumes some of the risk--if he doesn't like the speaker, he has to pay for return freight.  If you don't like this situation, audition the speaker at a show or look at something else; there is no shortage of speakers on the market.

smoked the Tektons.

When I see phrases like this, or "blows away", I just shake my head and move on. Reads like something a 15 yr old would write. But, to each his own........

People are free to buy what they like. It's freedom. Not sure what the problem is? The OP got what he liked..yes? And if it does not like what he has now, he can sell those speakers and buy something else which is what the majority of people here at AG do?!?!

I ended up with a pair of rebuild Proac Tesponse 3’s for less money that smoked the Tektons.

I bought a pair of Tekton Design Double Impact Special Edition. I have had them for 1 week so really not broken in at all. Overall I have been impressed with the sound given the cost. I can’t justify spending $10K -$30K or more for speakers... so for a full range solution I think they sound even better than my Vandersteen 2CE with Rythmik subs but I will delay final judgement till after a month of play...

I own the Double Impacts.  I had wanted Von Schweikert Endeavor MK II’s.  Price was my deciding factor.

Do I like the Double Imlacts?  Yes!

Are they the best speaker out there? No,

But for 3,000 dollars, they are amazing in my opinion.

Hate them or love them, that is your choice.  But for me, it was money well spent.

They are running through an Audible Illusions Modulus 3B preamp, custom tube mono blocks that were hand built by a friend, and a Teac NT-505 streamer.

I’ve been lucky enough to be able to listen to very expensive systems in excess of several hundreds of thousands of dollars.  Is my set up as good? No!  But it gets 90% there for a whole lot less dollars.

i actually heard the double impacts for the first time a couple of weeks ago--they’re neither as bad nor as transcendent as its detractors/fanboys claim. big sounding, good imaging and lots of detail. tight, not overbearing low end. high end sounded a bit bright/aggressive to my ears, which makes them less than perfectly coherent. but certainly a credible speaker at the price point.

I have followed Jay from his very beginnings.  Look how far back he goes and while I have not looked lately, I trust his perspective.  You may or may not agree, but his entire rationale in the beginning was to own what he reviewed.  Getting in and out of high end gear without getting crushed was always part of the discussion.

No one ever bought his opinion via gear he tried and tested.  If you have a week, read his thread from the very beginning.

If you dont get discounts on new audio gear  your being screwed plain and simple..I suggest finding  a different dealer cause your being punked .....no one pays msrp,...

Who are you, his aunt? I don't get discounts, I don't know anyone who gets discounts.  Giving discounts to people in exchange for a positive review is corrupt and undermines the whole thing.  It misleads people and that's wrong and it's not just audio reviews.

I saw the Tekton video, I already listed my take on it.....of course he gets discounts, come on man that's a real dumb statement...We all get discounts....I do as well as everybody I know...and the more you spend with that dealer the better the deal....but for you to just assume he's not genuine because you "know some reviewer "who is unscrupulous is just silly at best on your part.

I saw his video on Tekton, check it out.  What makes you think he doesn't get all that stuff at a huge discount or for free. My friend who wrote for a audio magazine got all his stuff for free.  Otherwise why would he do it?

I don't buy Jay's persona, he plugs stuff all the time too and has altera motives.and plugged Tekton. He's not the innocent kid he comes off as.  He's like anyone else, if he doesn't say something good manufacturers will stop sending him stuff to review. I only trust reviewers that pay for the gear that they review.

And yes, if someone is pissed off because they feel screwed and disrespected they might just dis every post about a particular piece of gear.

I think it's like a case of like McDonalds, it tastes good but makes you fat and kills you in time and will never be reviewed in the NY Times because it's basically crap.

Perhaps not sound like a shouty PA speaker with a midrange firing  all over the place due to a poorly time aligned array of cheap drivers where one high quality

8-12 inch transducer would do the job so much better.

"Secondly he said that all the Tektons did when turned up  is they got loud..and this is their flagship speaker!L"

missioncoonery,

What else is a speaker supposed to do when the volume gets turned up?

So that video is not available any more so try this one.

I love Europe.

Call it like it is and how anybody with any sense would see it.

A person who has to come into every single topic about a single speaker brand to talk crap about it is pathetic. Whomever that person might be…….

there you have it, a rather scathing review, countered by a last minute promotional blitz what was nobbled at the post..

True but there’s lots of ignorance in the world.  I really opened my eyes to this truth after buying the Tektons and from the environment these last few years but there’s always going to be people who want to believe what they want to believe and most people have to learn the hard way.

@philbarone My friend used to write for an audio magazine,  he got all his gear for free and told me that reviews are BS, based on attracting advertising dollars.

Is this fact not universally known?  That word that is used, "review", is so corrupted it is meaningless.  Oh, I'm so tempted to name names, but they are so well known I might get into trouble.  Must bite tongue.

The DI’s might have been okay with a solid state amp and for loud music but absolutely not with my tube amp.  The Klipsch blew them away and my twenty-five year old Proac Response 3’s were substantially better for what I listen to with my amp but hey, there’s plenty of used Double Impacts available on the used market.

10 bullsheet post about a speaker that was Flav of the month and now who cares from the owner of the company..very sad indeed, maybe try paying for ad space next time ..the moderators should pull your free ad space crap
