Affordable digital players

Just read in one of the stereo mags about the marantz sa8004 and how at a list price of $999 its a great buy at its price point. Also read in an earlier issue about the sony xa5400es list price $1500 also a great buy. What other players should be considered that perform well above for their price.
Should we say $2000 be the cut-off point.
