Adventure for HT enthousiast: BOSE Jewel Cubes

Given the following:
Due to wife acceptance, my neighbor is VERY limited in his speaker choice. Now, his eyes are om jewel cubes as used in Bose Lifestyle system 48 and a separate LF solution. The new system is to be driven by a processor and 8 channel amp of choice.
For this, he is looking for a 8 channel, 30 or 50 step equaliser with which he might get a flatter response from the speakers.
Does anyone have experience with Jewel Cubes used in non-Bose systems?
