Acme silver fuses

Does anyone know if there is a break-in time ?
Do they sound harsh/hard in the beginning ?

Thanks !

Most of why cables/interconnects/capacitors/etc have to "burn-in" is that their dielectric/insulator takes a charge after a time. Once that process has stabilized, they're "burned-in". Fuses have no dielectric, and should sound the same after 1hr as they would after 200hrs. At least- that's what I would expect.
As with all Acme products I would consult Wylie Coyote. He has the most experience with the entire product line over the last 50 years.

I did not hear any change after "break-in". What I did hear with this fuse was an increase in macro-dynamic power and fowardness to the sound.

YMMV
LOL, things never quite work out as planned for Wylie Coyote. Hopefully the fuses are more reliable. :)

I'll imagine that silver will sound like silver.
This is a somewhat older thread. But I purchased 4 of the Acme cfc coated fuses. I have them installed in my MF m6prx power amp. I have a SR orange fuse installed in my MF m6sdac. The SR orange fuse has hundreds of hours on it. The Acme cfc fuses have only 55 hours on them. So far they are sounding smooth and clean. Now the acme fuses might be letting the SR orange fuse work better also. But at $640 for 4 of the SR orange fuses for the amp the Acme cfc fuses at $18 each will do my amp good.
Almost a 12 year gap between posts. That may be a record!
Yet another Voodoo ac mains fuse thread, that need to be shifted to "Misc Audio" forum, or the rubbish bin if there’s one.
Uh, Georgie Boy, all or almost all audio fuses are in AC circuits. Hel-loo!
You need to check up on that, as many amps use rail fuses, which are dc sunshine.
And the reason I say AC fuses, is because you think they are directional, even though the mains is Alternating Current changing it's direction 60 x a second sunshine

I checked the A/C line coming into my house and it is wired in the wrong direction  what do I do now???

👍 excellent!!
Lets see the voodooist wriggle out of that one.

Cheers George
How could you check it? You couldn’t. Duh! This is almost too easy.
I'd be willing to bet 50% of the wires and circuits in Geoffkait's souped up Sony Walkman are running in the wrong direction.

Nah says he combats that with his $99 bag Brilliant Pebbles, he sticks them on his head.

You don’t think you’ve wiped that from your site do you Geoff,?? WayBack Machine got your back..

Acme Audio used to fall under the Bob Crump umbrella of high end stuff like his TG Audio cables, the MOBIE burn in device, Number Cruncher DAC, and others. Don’t overlook Acme Fuse holders, also silver plated. Beep, beep!
I used to trade Bob Crump for cool stuff like MOBIE, ACME fuse holder, his TG Audio speaker cables, silver plated wall outlets (ACME?), things of that nature.

Well guys the Acme cfc fuses of the slow blow are directional. I found if the high end has the sparkle the fuse sounds best. Bloated bottom end and dull top end the fuse is in the wrong direction. As of this time they are burning in nice and letting the music flow thru the NOLA KO speakers.
OK, let’s extrapolate. The Acme fuse is directional. The Acme fuse is a silver-plated stock fuse. Therefore all stock fuses are directional. The reason they’re all directional is the wire element in the stock fuses are directional. Therefore, all fuses, including aftermarket fuses are directional. Finally, gentle readers, 🔜  all wire is directional 🔚 since we just established the wire in all fuses is directional. Any questions?
Holy cow...fuses too. I give up..I've painted them with this German, concoction that was used for better contact. It was free to me as a gift. But like 250. USD for that stuff. I applied it 2 times and never removed it.
That was the instruction. lot of 24VDC fuses got painted, through the years..stopped a lot of problems...What about that stuff ever use it.
Stopped arcing, growing green stuff. I'll find it.. Wolfcoat!! I think that's it..

Regards

Seriously, I just ordered a CFC coated Acme fuse.  Other than trial and error, is there a way to identify how it’s best situated?  I’ll experiment if I have to, but if there’s a preferred direction I can’t imagine they would not have labeled it as such. And, unlike cables where one side is grounded it seems unlikely fuses would have a dedicated direction.  Anyone?

First try it one way, then the other way.

From what I remember, most makes say try it both ways and then go with what sounds best.

All the best,
Nonoise
