I think , some small manufecturers should sell their business .
They do not have the financial resources to compete on a R &D and a
customer services standpoint.
Surely , the one that I have refered to in this thread
I still have issues with this manufecturer . On a warranty and service basis.
If you can not beat theme , join theme !

One excellent brand that comes to my mind is Classé Audio.
Classé was a small company from Québec, Canada.
The brand has been sold , but I think , it has lost a bit of his ´´ aureole ´´or ´´crown ´´
A friend of mine bought a Classé amp and preamp some 30 years ago. They are still in a perfect condition : the caps are perfect . But with the sale of the brand , he lost his life long warranty.

Without going into roo many details, it is a DTS X board that has failled and need
to be replaced and the downmix outputs does not work.
It is a 17 000$ CAD 20 channels Home Theater processor and room correction kit.
And the other componants of my system ( power amp. Speakers, Apple TV , GIK acoustic pannels , ect , stand unused : worth a lot more than the 17 000$ Canadian.
Thanks every one. I feel I am getting stress and angry again.

Audio gears is becoming more and more complex.
Home Theaters , the new flaver of the month , and life saver for many company are very complexe .

It is a small US company . About 10 persons.
A friend of mine bought a Classé amp. and preamp about 30 years ago.
It was at the time a lifelong warranty. When sold, this warranty vanished.
Fortunatly , his gear are still 100% functionnal.

I think now that when you buy from a small companies , there is a risk factor
that is related to their financials and competitive advantages , that should not be
neglected.

I have communicated , two weeks ago with Mark Sossa , Director of
sales and marketing ; Vinnie Rossi. I had 3 questions about their new
Brama integrated amplifier. He could have told me to ask one of their
dealers . Instead , he gladly and kindly answered my questions. I am sure, this guy must have a lot to do these days. Vinnie Rossi is not a big company.
It is owned by Mr. Vinnie Rossi. And they had never heard about me before.
A complete stranger.
Result , I have ordered the Brama integrated, from a Vancouver dealer ,availlabe in the begining of January
I will not take the chance with the company , that I am talking about here.
The way they have behaved with me .
Even if they have , separates amp. and new preamp that would have cost
about the same.
Communication , respect , transparency .generosity.
I hope , they are in a good finacial position to respect their 10 years warranty

What is special about Home Theater gears is the relation between hardware and
software. The HT processors are big audio-video computers .
Is it possible to do repair theme , the same way as power amplifiers ?

It has been more than a month since the president of this company , told me
in an Email that my unit was ready to be shipped nex day. This Email
was also sent to the canadian rep.( a distributer/ dealer)
Since then , my attemps to commiunicate with that president has failed.
My unit is prestine. They just have to send me a new one.
Or take some parts in a new processor and put theme in mine.
When there is a will , there is a way.
Unless I am paranoid , there is something else.
I think if my name was Lee Ritenour , Dave Brubeck ,or Michael Corleone;
( you don't fool around very long with Lucas Brasi , )
I would have had , a much better commication and service.

It may be a Home Theater marketing strategy , but many brands ( like the one
I own) promote their processsors as being totally upgradeable almost indefinitely.
That would make theme , a more economical purchase , long term , than receivers.
Xmas holyday is coming. I hope I will have my processor then.
If I not , it will looks more and more like a steal.This processor is my property
Imagine , If I would have borrowed the money of my whole HT system , from a bank.The monthly payment would look like the one , on a new mid size luxury car .

I think , young people are not much intersted in highend 2 channels gears .
So to sell big tickets items and make a good profit margin ; audio companies
have rushed all togheter to the home theater segment. They will not all be winners.
Some have used the pandemy to promote this segment as ´´ safe at home entertainment ´´ How good chistians , they are...

I hope the high end will survive. All those improvments on the high end gears
should be enjoyed by the young generations.
When I was young , there was a good system in almost every home.
We gathered to listen to the new Deep Purple album.
I was a social experience as an individual one.
Now , what you see is Sony Play Station and X Box , etc
They gather ( even , on line ) to play with the new games
And it is supposed to be , quite addictive.
I have heard that these gears , the registrations , games and on line buying get expensive at the end of the day . I do not know , I am not a gamer.

An adult will be inclined to buy , what he has been impregnated with when
he was young.
This is why , snowmobiles manufecturers had launched , small model for
children. When they will be adults , they will tend to buy the same brand that
they have known when they were young.
It may be the same with audio gears. May be. I am not a marketing expert.
