A well-produced and recorded classical guitar LP?

Of what I heard, John Williams is currently the best classical guitar player, for my taste. Try youtube first and go from there. He was a student of Segovia, I think.

Eliot Fisk is among the most intellectual of all american musicians , on any instrument .

Okay, wait- Mark Levinson?

I have this one record, bought for its supposed audiophile quality, which every time I would play it would bug the hell out of me. Because it seemed at first very near technically perfect yet sounded awful it was very hard to put my finger on exactly why. Eventually I decided it was dry, sterile, void of feeling, pretty much the opposite of all my most treasured records. But why? 

This was one of those audiophile records where they are so proud of their work they include some extra info all about the recording chain, which included something called a Rose something or other mixing or whatever, I don't recall its been years, but then I saw the name Mark Levinson.

Of course! This was the same sound they would proudly push on you at Definitive Audio back then. Money you could buy a house with, you could instead make even gems like Breaking Silence unlistenable! No wonder.

Still have that record but don't know why, it is not fit for frisbee. So I have to ask, the Mark Levinson recording, its THAT Mark Levinson???

I second folkfreak's nomination of the Eliot Fisk Bach & Scarlatti disc, recorded by Mark Levinson (it may be hard to find, and not cheap). Also keep a lookout for any of The Romeros albums on Mercury Records. Easy to find are the Michael Hedge albums on Windham Hill, starting with perhaps Watching My Life Go By.
