$500-$1000 DAP vs tablet and dac for 2 channel home use? recommendations?

Would some of the newer DAPs compete with a cheap tablet / decent dac combo?
seems like the DAP would be a simpler one unit solution

this would be for home use connecting directly to an integrated amp powering tower speakers in a basic 2 channel setup

What digital audio player do you have in mind?

I've never seen anyone using a tablet physically connected to a dac. I do use one to send tidal content to my dac over Ethernet (using the bubbleupnp player). In that case, the tablet has absolutely zero impact on the sound quality... It's just a music selector.
