Simple system - what next?
I'm really happy with the speakers and the Sim i-5080. I think the two weakest links in my system are the DVD player and the IC's. I'm looking for a decent DVD player that will do SACD, DVD-A and read CD-R's. I have the DAC for redbook so I'm not so concerned about redbook quality in a DVD player. For the IC's I was thinking of going silver, but I'm not sure if my system will be too bright. I listen to pretty much all kinds of music - rock, jazz, trip-hop, electronica, classical, etc. (no country though). I would appreciate any feedback for the system or ways I can further improve the sound quality. Thanks!!

Those are some great little monitors. I heard them a while back at a dealer in Chicago and immediately started rearranging my system to get new speakers. I found a used pair of 6.3s and have been amazed with them. I use Kimber 4TC biwired to mine, but cables are very much a matter of personal taste. Good luck!

Jonny, Nice starter system! Good choices on cabling too. That Virtual Dyanamics stuff is great, too bad not as many people know about the product. I outfitted my whole system with it (Ref Shotgun speaker, Ref IC, Audition PC). In your situation I would get a Bel Canto DAC-1 (with good PC), Audition Speaker cable (with spades) and Audition Digital cable. The transport is unknown to me, but the DAC-1 is known to make DVD players sound great.

Toshiba is bad. It’s ok for HT but for music it sucks. Do not fall for 24/94 labels. Find a first rate 20 bit CD player or Transport/DAC combo. They go nowadays for a fraction of original price and will sound better than new, 24/94 but cheaply made stuff.

The acoustic zen are great cables, I use the hologram with B&W's and a sim audio i-5 integrated. The only thing that I might say is the combo between the soliloquy's and acoustic zen might be a little bit laid back, but if you enjoy that sound then you will be in for some bliss with the satoris, also I would reccomend trying the wow interconnect one you get a better source. For the source, you could try a used rotel-971 or maybe a used planet 2000 for about 600?

i'd recomend a planet 2k especially for trip-hop/electronica/rock music. very quick, accurate bass.

System edited: I've added the Muse model 2 DAC with Bessel Filter, Soliloquy S-10 Sub (got a great deal on it) and VD Audition Speaker Cables.
