The Summit Hello all, There have been several changes lately, the VAC PA 35.35 went to the factory for a signature upgrade, as Kevin Hayes put it, it sounds very nice. I agree. On the analog front, I sold my VPI Scout Signature, bought a Garrard 401 on Ebay UK, and set about restoring it. I had Frank Wyatt build the custom plinth for me. I bought a Dynavector DV 501 tonearm on Audiogon, and installed that on the plinth with my existing Dynavector XX2MKII. My old modded Marantz DV 8300 finally quit on me (transport), so I purchased a McIntosh MVP 871, and had a Signature Upgrade on it by David Schulte, of The Upgrade Companany. Interest in MM cartirdges induced me to try Acutex MM, so I have acquired an LPM 415 STR, and LPM M320 III STR cartridges. In addition, A Zu Denon 103R has been added to the MC collection. For the Modwright SWP SE phono stage, I purchased a power supply upgrade from Dan Wright, with a larger toroid, and improved PCB, which I installed, not a subtle upgrade, a worthwhile project. One of the reasons for my Tannoy project was the potential for using lower powered amps, so the latest change has been to an SET 300B by Assemblage Audio (Sonic Frontiers), which, while it was at Parts Connexion for repairs, I had them upgrade with new caps and resistors. My Plinius SA 100 MKIII was sold to finance the SET, so it's all tubes for me now. Mesh Plate 300B tubes from Upscale Audio, along with all other NOS tubes, and the new parts, have improved the modest SET 300B into my go-to amp, good as the push-pull EL 34 VAC is, it doesn't compete with the SET amp for what only SET amps can do. My ability to enjoy music from this system is at an all-time high, and something I am grateful for. Thanks for looking, Regards, Dan |
