After following the monster Lenco Thread, I won an auction on Ebay for the stock GL75, prayed and received my table in good condition and constructed a plinth. My first attempt at a plinth had a total of three layers. 1” MDF, 1 ¼” Corian and 1 ¼” MDF. I initially wanted a sleek looking table and went for the minimum depth. Using a Rega RB250 tonearm, I elongated the stock arm-hold using an emery drill bit. This enables the Rega to achieve perfect geometry. I also added an extra matt to get VTA close. The stock arm-hole only has to be enlarged about ½ inch. The bit cut the metal plate with easy taking only 30 minutes for a perfect looking hole as displayed in a couple of the pictures. Weighing in at just about 50 lbs, I was confident that I had achieved enough mass.
Not being able to compare my Lenco to another table other that my old Philips GA212, it sounded wonderful surpassing it as well as my Marantz SA-14 SACD player. However, I did have a problem with feedback through my subwoofer. I first thought it was rumble but after communicating with others, found out that I had a feedback problem. If I turned my sub off, no one can hear any feedback of any sort. Thanks to Twl, I added mass to equipment rack and some tip-toes, I got rid of most of my feedback. Not being satisfied with the feedback in my system, I decided to disassemble my table and add a few layers to my plinth. I added another 1 ¼” of Corian, ¾” of plywood, and ¾”of MDF. The good news is that I have gotten rid of all my audible feedback. It’s still there, but I have to boost the volume of my sub to a level higher than anyone would desire. . The three extra layers brought my total turntable weight to 102 lbs. I think I may have a Lenco world record here. |
