bare with me maybe I can address that...
I have noticed recording qualities can really be brought into focus with these high sensitivity speakers. Of course you heard what you heard.
But things like dynamic manipulations in the recording process, i.e compression ratios/limiting etc really impact in these systems.
The mastering and recording process can "dumb down" a high sensitivity speaker and rob it of its strengths. The 45 tube is even worse at that showing up that too. The transparency can be shocking. Some SS amps will make all recordings sound loud or the same kind of quality.
I have been shocked at how some recordings I rated as open and beautifully recorded before were actually brilliantly mastered to allow it sound good across the board. But on closer inspection they have been squashed to within an inch of their life, but very well!
Some electronic music is a case in point. Beautifully clean, wide and extended, but with no dynamic depth. I cannot stress that enough. It will make my Trio sound like any other speaker.
I am trying to think of some recordings off the top of my head that do this. Where a nice sounding and well mixed record is devoid of dynamic contrast.
Maybe Goldfrapps "Black cherry" or "Head first" maybe some Massive Attack. Ok it is electronic pop and hiphop, and has to survive the loudness war. But rather than just being squashed and bright and upfront, it has some weight on most speakers. The Trio shows how well it has been done, but put it next to Kraftwerk's Tour de france remaster and it is lifeless. Get into high rez and it is even more obvious.
I wont go on here, but get into the ECM recordings for Jazz and some of the newly remastered classical recordings on red seal. With that material you realize what was missing. Instruments leap out in their own space unhindered. Not paper thin and loud.
It is a nightmare to explain this. If you were sat with me here I would press play and I am sure you would get what I am rather clumsily trying to get across. I need a drink!
