CONNECT iPAD TO DAC VIA USB CAMERA KIT - POSSIBLE?

I read in an old post that it is possible to connect an iPad to a DAC using the USB camera kit. I tried this setup and was not successful. A message pops up on the iPad screen saying it cannot connect to the DAC (Auralic Vega) because it requires too much power. Interestingly enough, the DAC locked on to the 44.1khz signal. I was too scared to damage anything so I did not even dare to hit play. Maybe it would have worked! Has anybody tried this setup? Did I miss doing something? I was hoping to use the iPad as a way for my DAC to process data streams from Spotify and Pandora Your response and advice would be highly appreciated.
